Blog #5 - Response to Article

The article is titled "All kindergartners need to know" from the Chicago Sun Times. I have a mix of feelings towards this article. The organization of the curriculum is good because it defines what needs to be taught by a certain age. It does not allow the teacher any freedom to choose what he or she can do in the classroom. I don't have a positive or negative feeling towards the ideas discussed in this article. As a future teacher, I do like to have my own ideas present in the classroom, but the way they have the classroom set up it gives me no area to present my ideas. I guess I do have a negative feeling after all, but I do not disagree with the structure. I like to do things with some of my own ideas integrated into the curriculum.

I totally agree with you on all your points your make throughout your response! I feel that there should be standards but they should allow room for teachers to incorporate things of their own and how they present the lesson. On the other hand, i have negative feelings towards this article because i feel they are adding too many standards for teachers to include in their classroom throughout a school year. I think that there should be basic standards but not ones that are very detailed so that teachers can elaborate on them. I myself also like to add my own ideas into my lessons, the classroom and the curriculum.
